The Macy's Day Parade

Hello there, here I am back again with another rant and a complement .
Channel 4, which is our local NBC station showed the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, hurray for them.
Now the rant , first here is what I left on the message board at CBS...........I have to say that the coverage of the parade was lousy, just as the Oklahoma float and band came up the hosts were Oops time to go to a commercial , we dont want to show any thing about Oklahoma, it is thier 100th year as a state, cant let anyone know Oklahoma has something besides a dust bowl.
Get real guys, Oklahoma is up and coming. My husband is as mad as a wet hen, there was not enough of the Oklahoma part of the parade to tell what anything looked like. Some of the news people at CBS tried to put us down when the Murrah building was bombed. It is not acceptable for them to have a couple of talking heads up their yapping with celebrities about every thing but the parade. If you do that have a show for that , don't do it on a parade.
thank you for letting me vent.

OK , that being said I want to just put a little more in here.
CBS , Connie Chung, to be exact asked us if we could handle the Murrah bombing. Now CBS is dissing our float and one of our college bands.
Get real guys

We are not some backwards state that has nothing to offer the USA.
We have a great downtown with Brick Town, We have a real river now that has regattas on it.
We have a lot of celebrities that have come from Oklahoma, including astronauts, war heroes, country music stars, some hip hop stars, a lot of bands , just to mention a few of the great things that come from Oklahoma.

the bottom line is

'GET OVER YOURSELVES CBS AND

DON'T GO MESSING WITH US'

Every state has good things in it , why not report on that instead of disrespecting and important state such as Oklahoma.

OK , enough about that , how was your Thanksgiving day??? Nice and family oriented I hope.

peace go with you my friends

Ranting Again

What is it with some people.
Either they are spouting off with vulgar words and phrases or they are being down right nasty..
I was just on Photo Bucket looking at random pictures and right there in the middle of the G rated pictures are some pictures that are definitely pornographic.
I am not talking about mildly sexy or even very sexy. Nor am I talking about a girl standing naked in a bathroom with a towel barely covering her. I am talking about in your face sex acts.
Come on people , you want to take nasty pictures , help yourself , but make you nasty stuff private, dont let it out where my kid or someone elses kid can see it.
I know some people will say , well, just dont look at it. It is kinda hard not too when it is right there for God and everyone else to see, dont even get me started on the popular cartoon charactors I saw in there.
I learned real fast how to report those pictures/posters to the management at Photo Bucket.

HELLO

Hello everyone.

It is now September 22,2007

Tomorrow is my daughter's birthday.

Her name is Sharon and she will turn 19 tomorrow.

She is doing pretty good right now. Her boyfriend has been able to
get a new car. The car he got is a Grand Prix, don't remember the year, late '90's I know that much.He was able to pay it off completely with the insurance settlement. It is a nice car and has been well cared for.

Sharon and Sean (her boyfriend) are working at the same place I am working at. They work a evening shift, this is good because it gives them 6 hours of work. They start at 5:00 and work to 11:00pm . After 6:00pm they get shift differential of $1.25 an hour.Does not sound like much but it adds up . All day Saturday and Sunday we get the differential too. They are considered full time so they will get full time benefits.

Well ,more later , they just walked in the door and we are going to have cake and ice cream.
Bye

About the "Good Old Days"

There is a song out by Bucky Convington, a country signer , it is called "A Different World". Now I like the way he sings , his voice is really nice. But I have a problem with this song , here are the lyrics "We were born to mothers who smoked and drank
Our cribs were covered in lead based paint
No child proof lids no seat belts in cars
Rode bikes with no helmets and still here we are, still here we are
We got daddy’s belt when we misbehaved
Had three TV channels you got up to change
No video games and no satellite
All we had were friends and they were outside, playin’ outside
ChorusIt was a different life
When we were boys and girls
Not just a different time It was a different world
School always started the same every day
The pledge of allegiance then someone would pray
Not every kid made the team when they tried
We got disappointed and that was all right, we turned out all right
Chorus Bridge No bottled water, we drank from a garden hose
And every Sunday, all the stores were closed "
and then here is a email I saw on one of my
crochet groups and the reply I sent to the group it was from. My reply to the forwarded letter
was not published, It was moderated, and not put on , this is the only thing I can think that could have happened , because it never appeared on the groups message forum. So , I left the
group, so here is the email .........................
NOT SURE IF JAY LENO REALLY QUOTED THIS BUT LIKED IT AND
PASSING IT ON LINDA
SOME GOOD....SOME SCARY....

Were you born 1930-1979?Date: Wed, 9 May 2007 03:31:31 -0500
Those Born 1930-1979 READ TO THE BOTTOM FOR QUOTE OF THE MONTH BY JAY LENO. IF YOU DON'T READ ANYTHING ELSE---VERY WELL STATED TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED the 1930's, 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's!! First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant. They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes. Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-based paints.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking.
As infants & children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, booster seats, seat belts or air bags Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat. We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle.
We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this.

We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank Kool-aid made with sugar, but we weren't overweight because, WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!
We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on. No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K.We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.
We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's, no cell phones, no personal computer! s, no Internet or chat rooms.......WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!
We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents. We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever. We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes.
We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them!
Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!! The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law! These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever! The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas. We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL! If YOU are one of them.CONGRATULATIONS!
You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated so much of our lives for our own good. While you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave (and lucky) their parents were. Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn't it?!The quote of the month is by Jay Leno:"With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks, are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?"For those that prefer to think that God is not watching over us...go ahead and delete this. For the rest of us...pass this on. "

Ok , granted a lot of good points are made in this little essay. But there is a lot of crap in this
essay too, here is the response I sent to the group that was not posted. ................This is all well and good. But I have to throw a wet blanket on things.
It is true that things were a lot different in the past.
You think of the thngs that happened no seat belts, etc. but no one thinks of what
having seat belts means.
How many kids went threw windshields and got killed.
True , kids dont get outside as much as they should, we cant trust them to be
out by themselves because of the wierdos out there. But there were wierdos back then too,
has the percentage of disappeared children gone up or down , I would be willing to say it
is about the same
How many kids die from Polio? How many crippled kids do you see at the stores because
they had Polio?
Personaly , I will take some regulations, even if some seem intrusive , to know that
my children will not die from Polio, or go blind or deaf from from german measles
I would perfer not to have to worry if my boys are damaged or not from the mumps.
I can innoculate my pets from disease and not have to worry about how to tell my
kids one of thier cats died from Feline Leukemia, seeing one of our four legged babies die from this horrible disease is enough.
How did our parents feel when one of the children they loved died of a disease that can
be prevented or cured by the advances we enjoy today.
There was a lot to be said for the past , I am not dening that . I enjoyed my childhood for the most part, but it would have been nice if my mother had been tested for gestational
diabetes, if she was maybe my brother would have been born normal , and by c-section,
instead of being born "normally" and suffering from Cerabal Palsy, undeveloped retinas which made him blind, and with hydrocephalis , that made him different from every one
else. He was fortunate to be smart, how smart would he have been if he was 'normal', would
they have found the brain tumor that killed him sooner , if he was not already blind?

I am sorry if I have offended any body, but I get tired of hearing about how great the past was
and how bad off kids are today. I dont remember who said it, but he was around about 2 or 3 thousand years ago or so , like I said I dont remember right now ,. But he also said the
younger generation is going to h***.

When people remember the good about the past , they forget the bad. We have to make sure we remember the bad so we dont repeat it.

And yes I grew up in the 60's .I was born in 1960. It was really crappy that my dad was gone so much in the Air Force .Yeah , we did not have seatbelts. But I thank God for seatbelts,
They are the only things that kept me and my husband form going thru a windshield 18 years ago when a drunk pulled out in front us . Seat belts saved my daughter and her boyfriend on July 3 , 2007 from being severely injured when some little twit decided to run a stop light, saved her life too.

Again I am sorry if I have offeded anyone , I will stop now
Debra Van Dorp

Ok , this is my opinion, but I don't think I was overboard in my response, I think I made some valid points.
I would like to add, that if it were not for testing and the advances made in maternity medicine , my son Jacob might have been damaged during birth , his umbilical cord was too short and would not let him descend correctly , he also was in the wrong position to be born safely. Here may have been born with severe handicaps or even dead. My sister in law's babies were born by C-section. If it was not for obsterical science, only the oldest would have been born. The world would be worse but for the fact that she had two more wonderful kids

I do agree that the government gets its grubby hands into our lives too much, but you know what, ? I will gladly trade some "freedom" to be assured that car makers have to make thier
cars better. Medicines are safer and more pure. Our food is better, I personaly don't know many
people who have died from food poisoning. How many people died from this before the 1970's?
One of the women I work with was born with a severe case of bi-lateral cleft palate, her nasal
and sinus cavitites are deformed , she has a lot of problems with her sinuses. She has problems with infections.
There is a girl at my church that was born with spina bifida. she is 24 now, if it weren't for advances made in the decades before the 80's she would be dead, and that would be a sin.

Any way the bottom line is , the good old days are not something to be that nastalgic about. There were some good things , yes , the nieghborhoods were different, you knew who everyone was. But the downside of it was , there were black nieghborhoods, there were white neighborhoods, little China, little Itally etc, etc,etc,.....................no wonder the majority of people were bigots, and you coulden't marry your sweetheart because you were Catholic and she was a Protestant, or Jewish. That is stupid old fashioned thinking.

So anyway , I will have something more pleasant to talk about next time.

No response from Wal-Mart

I have not got a response from Wal-Mart yet , it is the week end ,so I guess I can wait until next week for one

My letter to Wal-Mart

Here is a copy of my email to Wal-Mart. I will let you know what thier response is.

"Hello Mr Scott.I have a comment about your stores. I live in Moore, as you can see by my info . We have a supercenter and a nieghborhood market in towm. I found two dogs and made some flyers to see if I could find the owners, I am not one to dump, or condone dumping animals. I think it is a nasty thing to do. I also think it is stupid, idiotic, anti-family,anti-community, and just plain dumb not to allow me to put up one of my flyers in the stores. If Wal-Mart is this wonderful store that cares about the people that shop there as well as the employees, I think you are really doing a s***** job of it. I worked at my nieghborhood Wal-Mart for 5 years. When I quit over a family issue, a co manager told the business comes first. Give me a break, I was standing around for 15 to 20 minutes between customers and she told me I could not go to the hospital to be with my mother as she came out of surgery. She is d*** lucky nothing happened to my mother or I would have been talking to an attorney.Well , I consider this a mild email , compared to the way I am getting fed up with the way big companies are dumping on everyone., I will await a reply from you , thank you"

End of August

Hey there, it has been awhile, again.
Lots happen' right now . The kids went back to school on August 14 this year . Can you believe
it ?That is really early. I would rather the kids have another hour tack onto their school day, than have it start so early in the summer. Adding another 10 or 15 minutes on to each class time would be a lot nicer. My daughter agrees, she would rather stay longer that start school so soon.

Well , the real reason I am posting tonight , at such a late hour , is to rant about Wal-Mart.
I found two dogs at the end of our street where it lets out onto a real busy street. One of them
kept acting like she was going to try to cross the busy street. I was on my way to get Sharon's
boyfriend from the Hibdon store , where he dropped his car off for some brake repair.

I saw these two dogs and I thought, "there is no way I am going to be coming back down the street and see these two dogs dead in the street". So, I stopped at the stop sign and got the two dogs to let me put them in the car, they are some one's babies , they laid down on the back seat
and did not make a sound. Well, I made some flyers to put up at stores around here. There is a Wal-Mart and a Neighborhood Market in my area , so I was going to put a flyer in those stores in addition to the connivance stores around here. I asked permission of course. Well , guess what their response was? "We do not allow flyers to be displayed in our stores."
And here I thought Wal-Marts were supposed to be family and community oriented. As far
as I am concerned , this is not very community oriented. The Wal-Marts are the center of a
community anymore. Everyone goes there, it is the perfect place to put a found dog sign.
Now , not only has Wal-Mart driven out the mom and pops, it doesn't care about the
community it serves.Unfortunately , it is the only game in town as far as groceries are concerned. There is a small grocery store, but it does not have everything I need.
Wal-Mart, in my opinion, is getting too big for their britches.

Well , that is enough for now, I am going to email Wal-Mart now and give them a piece of my mind .

WOW BEEN A WHILE

Wow, it has been a while.
Been busy , but not that busy , just a little lazy I guess.
Well , lets see what is happened since I last posted.
My husband, myself and my oldest son went to Florida in the middle of June to Florida
for a wedding , our niece , Samantha, got married
Her husband's name is Nick.
We were gone for a week, it rained every day here in Oklahoma while we were gone , it rained once in Florida. Some how the weather is backwards. It is supposed to rain a lot in Florida, and not a lot in Oklahoma. We had rain every day for 19 straight days, not sprinkles , but measurable rain, at least an inch.
In 2005 and 2006 we had a drought , so there was less rain in those years than there has been so far this year. We have had an average of 29 inches of rain statewide so far this year.
All of the lakes are literally overflowing , Lake Texhoma, it straddles the border between Oklahoma and Texas, is dumping enough water over the spillway to fill an Olympic size swimming pool every 3 seconds http://newsok.com/article/3082640 . We had enough rain for a while. There is mold everywhere. The humidity is up, makes it hard to stay cool. In Oklahoma it should be hot and fairly dry right now.
The grass should be slowing down on its growing, it is growing like it has been given "super grow and get thick" fertilizer. It is so thick it makes it really hard to mow. The ground is so wet it squishes and sinks in when you try to walk on it . This is not normal for this time of year. It is not good for the wheat farmers and the hay farmers, it is too wet to harvest and a lot of the crop does not grow , the baby plants and the seeds rot in the ground.

It was hot and no rain today, but it was very humid. You take two steps outside and you are covered by humidity. I went shopping this afternoon. I always get my cold stuff last, so it is not in the cart very long. By the time I got to the checkout the frozen items had water dripping off of them.

Lets just say, we are ready for a break for a while. No body could go to the lakes for July 4. Most of them were closed because the camp grounds were under water. We are having localized flooding and flash flood warnings just about every day.

More later,
Debra, who feels like she is drowning in the air.

RANTING

Got some ranting to do.
I was at the intersection that leads out of our neighborhood yesterday. The traffic was pretty heavy , which meant it was taking a while to get out . Well, I don't want to get hit , so I am waiting for a good time to go out on the street. Well, this stupid girl behind me decides she does not want wait anymore , so she gets out from behind me and sets on my right. When traffic clears I start to go. would you believe it! This stupid blankety blank brat turns left in front of me. I am already moving , I have to hit my brakes , I laid on the horn. I did not hit the idiot , but I was really , really mad.
There are some really stupid people out there driving around. That is why there are so many accidents .
Not only that I just heard something on the news just now. The control towers at the little airports around here , are not allowed to have radios of any kind in the tower. On of the small airports around here had a tornado coming toward them and they did not know about it because they cant have radios in the tower. The FAA banned them , how stupid is that???
Ok , I better stop now , I could go on for hours. I will be back later.

Happy Febuary 3rd

Hey everyone !
Well the snow storm earlier in the week was a bust, thank you God. We had just got over having 4 inches of ice on the ground for 2 weeks, felt like forever. We are just not equiped for ice/snow on the ground for that long a time. As a general rule when it snows or we get an ice storm every thing is gone inside of a week , this winter the stuff has not been real often , but it usually does not last this long. There is a pile of the ice scrappings off the parking lot in the middle of a store's parking lot. This pile was about 6 foot tall, it down to about 5 foot, but it has been there for about 3 weeks. That thing will be there for another month or two.

Every one around here has been in pretty good health, but now there is a stomach virus going around. I had to take Sharon to the doctor because she had missed 3 days of school and one day of work. She is starting to feel better now.
Jacob feels a little bad , since he was lactose intolerant when he was younger, the doctor told Jacob not to consume milk or milk products for several days, when he is well his system can handle milk just fine.

I wanted to let everyone know how we felt about Babaro dying , that great horse was an inspiration to a lot of people. He did not give up , poor thing just could not overcome the problems with his legs. His owner said he made the decision to let him go when he looked into Barbaro's eyes and saw the plea to be relieved of his pain. He had as much courage as a lot people.

I will be back later, bye

It is raining ice

He everyone .
Guess what it is doing outside. It is raining frozen rain. Later it will be snowing.
Just hope the power does not go out , we got the sattelite dish fixed up so it will be fine. Sprayed the dish with cooking spray, it will help the ice not stick.
I just got a pie out of the oven , it sure does smell good.
I went to the grocery store this morning. From looking at the empty shelves you would think we are going to be snowed in for a month . It is unbelievable how much stuff people just horde. The only reason I waited for today to get groceries is because today is payday.
All of the kids are doing great. Sharon is working at a hotel. She really likes the place. It is new and it is a nice hotel. It has been built since the tornado came through 8 years ago. It is wild , there are still signs of that tornado, of course it was the biggest and baddest one in forever.
Sharon and Elizabeth just got home from school. Sharon just told me one of her friends mom went out to get milk last night . She got the last one in the cooler. There was another lady there that was ready to fight her for it. How crazy is that??
Well I will post some pictures of the storm tommorrow. I may post some picts of the cat on the fridge later.
